Lara Schnitger and My Barbarian – Jan. 17th @Luckman Fine Arts Complex

If you haven’t seen any My Barbarian performances, I would urge you to right away. My Barbarian, an artist collective based in Los Angeles, performs musical performances that utilizes fantasy and satire to molest and address cross-cultural and historical misadventures. Add the perverseness of Lara Schnitger’s sculpture, and you’ve got a sexual milkshake.

My Barbarian

This multimedia exhibition marks the debut of a new collaboration between sculptor Lara Schnitger and the performance collective My Barbarian (Malik Gaines, Jade Gordon and Alexandro Segade). In this installation, the latest in a series of ongoing yet positively unpredictable joint ventures, music and theatre converge together with sculpture in strange and wonderful ways to play, to battle, and to dance… to conjure and provoke a state of trance. Incorporating a new video produced during the first stage of this project, which took place at the Museum Het Domein in Sittard in August 2008, this exhibition offers up a feast for the senses. A recent catalog that accompanies this project will be available.
