New York Streets

The week leading up to Christmas NY was freezing. I walked by this building in my neighborhood that I always thought was abandoned. The day before I snapped this photo I saw a light on in a window and the silhouette of a person on a phone. I managed to snap the photos below right before I headed down to Florida to visit with my family.

For the dummy that left the comment on Street Rue Calle saying something like “fuck that war, there’s a fucking war out here” I have this picture for you cowboy. It takes a lot to offend me (and I’m not going to pretend to know anything about someone I’ve never met) but I’ve got a strong suspicion you aren’t dodging surface to air missiles over here in America. And being in America, I doubt you spent the week leading up to Christmas alone, sleeping on the platform of my subway stop in Brooklyn like this dude.

Okay no more cold. I went to Florida for a week to crowd into a condo with the fam at the beach.

My family knows how to celebrate. Yes, that hand belongs to my mom.

While driving over to the beach we stopped at a toll. This fella was next to us. I noticed the bullet hole in the side of his car and asked to take a picture. He said (imagine a redneck accent) “I wassuh just drivin by the woods one day n dis fella shot at me!” Then we all make a laugh.

For my whole life my grandpa has lived at the beach. This is a picture of a wall in his living room. Ever since I was a kid this picture of a woman’s breast has been hanging there. He took it of some random girl in the seventies. Since I was a kid he’ll randomly point out this picture and say: “Don’t get too excited… by now her boob’s are sagging to her knees.”

I flew back to NYC in time for the new year. Upon returning I noticed that this nice young man left some nice New Year’s wishes for Flatbush. Thanks buddy.

The other day I was on the Lower East Side and saw this. I must say, that third rail shit is crazy.

Yes, the puddle on the ground is urine. The Lower East Side is awesome like that.

Every now and then someone edits this Obama message. Its been going back and forth since before the election.

Bomb Graffiti! No, Wheat Paste! Blah blah blah

And then somebody like Aakash Nihalani comes along and just tapes up geometric boxes.
And the philosophical debate ensues…
Let the comments begin!

I live on the LES and just started taking photos with a new camera I got for Christmas. I also just added your blog to my reader yesterday after my g/f recommended it. It’s weird how many things you photographed over the past week on the lower east side that I also photographed in the last few weeks. Seriously, going by your post I snapped 8 out of your 10 shots. Coincidences like that are awesome.
